Indonesian Armed Forces and Police Stationed to Secure G20 Summit

Denpasar, InfoPublik - Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Andika Perkasa led the Roll Call Ceremony of the G20 Summit VVIP Security Forces at Puputan Margarana Niti Mandala Field, Renon, Denpasar, Bali, Monday (11/7/2022). The ceremony, attended by 3,700 TNI and police officers along with their primary weapons system (Alutsista), were aimed to check the readiness of all task forces under Joint Integrated Security Command (KOGABPADPAM).

At the roll call, the TNI and Indonesian National Police (Polri) showed their strength and readiness to secure the the G20 Summit in Bali from any potential threats.

Andika ordered all personnel to be ready with their assignment area and to anticipate dynamics during the conference as the area used for the conference is close to the waters.

"Everyone must be prepared and stays at their respective points until all G20 activities are completed," said the TNI Commander in front of all the troops participating in the ceremony.

He also ordered all forces at sea, air and land to be ready in their respective positions at 07:30 Central Indonesian Time (WITA), starting Tuesday (11/8/2022).

He resolutely ordered the task force to be ready, identify their respective assignments in detail, and conduct simulations. In the next two days, he would check again the preparedness of the combined TNI and police forces. In fact, the President is also scheduled to check the readiness for securing the G20.

He emphasized that problems such as lack of equipment or supplies must be addressed immediately. This is a mitigation to minimize problem or error.

On the same occasion, Indonesian National Police Chief (Kapolri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also reminded the President's message that all troops must be cautious in their line of duties so that everything goes well both in the event organization and the security.

"The President asked that there should not be any slightest problem. The key is to put forward the unity and synergy between TNI and Polri," said the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The ceremony was also attended by the Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Luhut emphasized that the TNI and Polri must be ready to prevent any potential threat during the G20 Summit in Bali.

"The President’s instructed that there should be no mistakes at all. He also asked all TNI and Polri personnel must work together to secure this event. Secure with zero problem. This is not an easy job, but it is also not a job that we cannot do," said Luhut in front of thousands of personnel at the ceremony.

He admitted that the TNI and Polri have a lot of experience in dealing with potential threats, even the smallest threat, thanks to the synergy as a good team. Therefore, Luhut asked all troops to be proud of Indonesian leadership in this international conference, the G20 Summit.

A sense of pride in Indonesia's ability must continue to be instilled in all TNI and Polri personnel mind. He stated that G20 Presidency is very important for the country's image in the eyes of the world. Moreover, he continued, Indonesia was one of the few countries that was able to survive in the midst of the threat of a global crisis due to Russia-Ukraine war.

This, he continued, proved the Indonesian national economy is still good. This is evidenced by a decrease in the inflation rate and an increase in economic growth in the third quarter by 5.72 percent. In fact, Indonesia is still one of the world's most attractive countries  for investment.

On this occasion, Luhut informed that 16 heads of state had confirmed their attendance at the G20 Summit in Bali. Meanwhile, several other countries are still in confirmation process. Regarding the VVIP security, Luhut emphasized that there is no difference between one country and another.

Luhut also asked all Indonesian citizens to support the success of this nation’s big event. Optimism and pride should always be spread. "We must be proud because Indonesia is a big country, not a small one," he said.

After the ceremony, the TNI Commander together with Minister Luhut and the National Police Chief checked the readiness of the troops at the Renon field. Then, they invited the media to look at the Air Task Force readiness at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Air Force Base.

There are around 18,000 joint troops who will be involved in securing the Bali G20 Summit. About 13 warships were on standby in the waters around the Apurva Kempinski Hotel and the Nusa Dua area. In addition, about 15 helicopters, two F16 fighters, and two Sukhoi aircrafts—Su27 and Su30—have been prepared.

Personnel attending the roll call are members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais), regional security (pamwil), VVIP task force, special forces, marine, air force, the airport/port/installation, armed forces medical personel , electronic communication force, information force, evacuation team, VIP task force, music corps, company-level unit.

The national primary weapons system (Alutsista) exhibition in the ceremony were operated by all three TNI forces and other joint teams. It consisted of electric motorcycles and cars, jammer vehicles, chamber cars, National SAR Agency (Basarnas) operational vehicles, Air Task Force smart hunters, J-Force special forces, Police Baracuda, Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres) bomb team and animal, Anoa Paspampres tactical vehicles, and Bali regional disaster management agendy vehicles.
