Bali, InfoPublik - Indonesia's position as the the G20 president can provide benefits and positive values. The presidency comes with the privilege to determine the theme and agenda of the conference. While at the same time, Indonesia also needs to highlight the advantages of its values, especially those contained in the state principle, Pancasila.

"Indonesia is in an ideal position to play its role at the global level," French anthropologist Jean Couteau told G20 Communication and Media Team, in Bali, Saturday (11/6/2022).

According to Coteau, there are several indicators that make Indonesia appropriate to lead, including significant economic growth, almost zero political violence compared to other countries, and harmonious inter-religious relations.

“Those points can be offered as a model of co-existence (togetherness) at the global level. The practice in Indonesia emphasizes the value of togetherness more than differences. Everything is contained in Pancasila, a formula that is cross-national in nature,” said Couteau, who is also a lecturer at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI) Denpasar.
Couteau considered that Indonesia has succeeded in preventing and dealing with identity-based violence, especially religion and ethnicity. It helps Indonesia mitigate the crystallization of religion and narrow nationalism which are the roots of conflicts in various countries.

“Indonesia has moderate politics and identity values. There has been a fairly good and successful management of the complexity of Indonesia," said the Clisson-born anthropologist.

Furthermore, Couteau encouraged the Indonesian government to be more determined in showing its identity and playing a role at the global level so that the world could take its good values. Not to mention that Indonesia is the third largest democracy, with a large population and ethnic diversity.

"Indonesia should be a role model for the world," said Couteau, who has lived for decades in Bali and has written many books about Bali.

Coordinator of the Special Staff to the President (SKP), Ari Dwipayana, added that what is needed in the global constellation is the world leaders’ role in suppressing their egos to jointly overcome the world recession. "The G20 presidency puts Indonesia at the forefront to address the problem," said Ari.

However, this presidency position came with and is overshadowed by the unfavorable world situations. Among other things, the fluctuating post-pandemic global situation, geopolitical disturbances, economic recession, and even the war between Russia and Ukraine. "We need a dynamic response to all these problems," said Ari.

Ari added that the organization of the G20 Summit in Bali is expected to produce something useful for the world’s community. “With Balinese spiritual power; shanti (peace), taksu (spirit), and jagadhita (welfare), it is expected that the heads of state will receive a positive aura and spread peace," said Ari.

In this regard, Ari invited all Indonesian people, especially the Balinese people to support and participate in the successful organization of the G20 Summit on November 15 –16, 2022. "Because the G20 consists of the world’s strongest economic countries which have the influence in overcoming all world problems," Ari concluded.

The G20 Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali, is themed Recover Together, Recover Stronger. The G20 represents more than 60% of the world's population, 75% of the global trade and 80% of the world's GDP. The three main issues raised by Indonesia for the 2022 Summit include renewable energy, health, and the digital world.
