Jakarta, InfoPublik - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan visited London to meet former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Wednesday night (10/27). Tony is also Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
The meeting agenda was mainly Indonesia's contribution to addressing climate change, as the Conference of the Parties (COP26) and the G20 Summit will discuss the issue.
Accompanied Coordinating Minister Luhut was Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Arsjad Rasjid and Chairman of the Advisory Council of Kadin Anindya Bakrie.
In a written statement received on Thursday (10/28), Coordinating Minister Luhut emphasized the focus of the Indonesian government on managing its natural wealth.
"Indonesia will strike a balance between conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and the environment to contribute to climate change efforts for future generations of Indonesia and the world," he said.
Coordinating Minister Luhut also mentioned that the Indonesian government will address the climate change issue as a crucial point at the 2022 G20 Summit in Bali.
On the same occasion, KADIN Chairman Arsjad Rasjid said that in this meeting, apart from discussing opportunities for cooperation between Indonesia and the UK, he also discussed various issues such as environmental issues and climate change.
“It is important for businesses in Indonesia to be a part of this international conference (COP26). Because we are committing to be hand in hand with the government and all stakeholders to create a Green Economy," said Arsjad.
In addition to environmental issues, Coordinating Minister Luhut also conveyed the progress of handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia, which is getting better. He also said about the downward trend in confirmed cases, with efforts to boost vaccination and other prevention efforts.
Minister Luhur and delegations from KADIN will attend many important meetings from London, Oxford, Glasgow and attend COP26 in 2022. They will meet with many parties and figures to seek good cooperation opportunities for post-pandemic economic recovery and transformation to advance the Indonesian economy.
Huawei Asia Pacific Region President Jeffrey Liu, Special Advisor to the Coordinating Minister Jona Widhagdo Putri, Chair of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Arsjad Rasjid, Chair of the Indonesian Fintech Association Pandu Sjahrir also attended the occasion.
