Indonesia is Ready to Collaborate in the G20 Presidency 2022

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin attended the G20 Health Ministers' Meeting 2021 on 5—6 September in Rome, Italy.

Located at the Musei Capitolini, Budi Gunadi Sadikin had the opportunity to deliver his opening remarks as Chair of the G20 in 2022 for the health sector.

He said that the COVID-19 pandemic revealed weakness and inequality in the global health system. Only 20 percent of the world's vaccine supply is available to developing countries. In fact, these countries had a combined population of almost half of the world's population.

In his remarks, the minister also conveyed Indonesia's readiness to become a regional vaccine production hub in meeting global vaccine needs.

Related to the G20 2022 presidency, Budi Gunadi also suggested the need for global policies and instruments on health protocols and resource pooling.

"Indonesia will continue the hard work that has been done by the previous Presidencies, Italy and Saudi Arabia, to ensure a safer, stronger, and healthier world for the next generation," said the health minister in an official statement, Monday, 13 September.

Indonesia also welcomes the proposed global health issues to be discussed at the Indonesian Presidency and the importance of strengthening the global health architecture.

The G20 Health Ministers’ Meeting 2021 adopted the Declaration of the G20 Health Ministers which contains a commitment to overcome the impact of COVID-19 on the sustainable development goals (SDG).

The meeting also declares the readiness to overcome the long-term negative impacts of the pandemic and of similar effects from future pandemics, as well as a global strategy to increase equitable access to diagnostic tools, medications, and vaccines and recommend exploring global financing to support the global health system.

In addition to attending the G20 Health Ministers' Meeting 2021, the health minister also conducted a meeting with several G20 Health Ministers and International Organization Leaders who were present in Rome to express appreciation for their support for Indonesia, and to discuss cooperation, such as the exchange of experts and health workers.
