Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia Oil Palm Estate Fund (BPDP Sawit) and Indonesia Palm Oil Council held dissemination and education event to the community about how to use palm oil properly for frying.

“We educate the community in how to fry properly by not using used cooking oil. After being used twice for frying, the oil is no longer good to be used,” said BPDP Sawit president director Bayu Krisnamurthi in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday (2/16).

He stated that the community had to understand that using used cooking oil more than twice would give bad impact on health.

BPDP Sawit and Indonesia Palm Oil Council also conducted social activity by donating Rp15 million for improvement of school facility in Singgasari Village in Bogor Regency.

Bayu also explained that the demand of cooking oil in the world is expected to increase.

“The increasing demand is not calculable yet. However, we can observe the increasing orders from countries that highly use cooking oil. We must carefully anticipate this trend,” said Bayu.

He explained further that Indonesia is a crude palm oil (CPO)—one of the main processed oil palm products—producing country. From the total of recent palm oil production, about 40 percent are used as cooking oil for domestic market and the rest are exported.

The palm oil from Indonesia is mostly exported to China, India, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. The oil is exported to the US in a relatively small number; only 800,000 to 1 million tons per year and is dominated by biodiesel.

“Currently, we are eyeing the new and strong markets such as Russia, Spain, Italy, and Persian countries Iran for instance as well as middle eastern countries. These are potential markets to be penetrated in the future,” he concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
