E-commerce expands small, medium industries market, Minister says

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita visited several small and medium industries (IKM) exhibition booths and encouraged the business sector to utilize e-commerce.

“As the institution who responsible in industry and IKM sectors, we encourage them to penetrate digital market. Moreover, we have IKM e-smart,” Minister Airlangga said in Jakarta on Sunday (2/5)

He underlined the significance of branding strengthening for national industry products especially in the free market era, among others, ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

“We encourage national industries to strengthen their products brandings. It is important to increase competitiveness,” he said.

He is optimistic that the industries can win and complete the AEC market because Indonesia’s population and economic size dominate the region.

“In this region, we make up 40 percent of population and 35 percent contribution to the economy. Thus, we have won in terms of population and GDP,” he said. 

He also urged the national industries to keep innovating in creating interesting design and packaging that are relevant with the market demand. Thus, it will give added value to the products.  

He hoped that domestic industries would show national identity. Moreover, Indonesia is one of the countries who are blessed with abundant biodiversity and culture.

“[They should] promote local wisdom-based products, because it can strengthen the national unity,” he said.
