Jakarta, InfoPublik - The government will build 100 Science and Technology Parks in a number of areas.

"The parks are aimed to produce innovative products based on technology and continuous innovation," said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Puan Maharani, in a press conference after a ministerial coordination meeting discussing the plan in Jakarta, Thursday (2/11).

According to Minister Maharani, the parks will be built over the next five years, and sixty parks are being constructed at the moment.

The parks are focused on the development of maritime, agriculture, energy, health, and information and communication technology sectors.

Ms. Maharani underlined that the construction of 60 parks should be relevant to the regions’ potentials, developments, industries, and human resources availability.

"Local government’s commitment in running the program should be strong," she said.

According to her, in order to achieve the goals, it is necessary to provide Standard Operating Procedure (SOP); development master plan; synergy between relevant ministries/agencies; and evaluation of launched 60 parks as the pilot.

"The government will continue to monitor the construction progress since the parks will be the local’s productivity development center," she said.

The parks will be developed by seven ministries/agencies, namely the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Ministry of Industry, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), the Agency for the Assessment and Technology Application (BPPT), and the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN).
