Jakarta, InfoPublik - Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) will build fish flour factories worth of Rp53.9 billion. This program is aimed to reduce the highly fish flour import numbers.

Nilanto Perbowo, KKP’s Director General of Marine and Fisheries Products Competitiveness Strengthening (PDSPKP), said that his office has budgeted Rp53.9 billion in 2016 to build fish flour factories. It is a solution to reduce the amount of imported fish flour.

"The facilities will be built in West Kotawaringin, South Halmahera, and Kendari City. The factories will be located at the centers of fisheries activities in those areas," said Mr. Perbowo in Jakarta, Saturday (1/9).

The fish flour products will be used to supply aquaculture feed, especially shrimps, because high quality shrimps need a high-protein feed.

“High quality feed will produce high quality shrimp products for domestic market. Fish flour will also be used for other purposes.

"The factories will be built near the raw materials, for example, at the fish harbor. It will not overlap with other KKP’s Directorate Generals activities," he added. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
