Mandalika, Media Center Indonesia – Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is ready to hold the second series of MotoGP 2022 called the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia on March 18-20, 2022. Before the event, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) carried out the homologation, a test to assess the feasibility of the circuit to hold a race for 24 MotoGP riders.

This was a statement made by the President Director of PT Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Abdulbar M Mansoer in a press conference at the Media Center Indonesia for Mandalika MotoGP 2022 in Mandalika, Thursday (17/3/2022).

Mansoer, nicknamed Bary, also said that the owner of Mandalika Circuit ITDC had a meeting with MotoGP promotor Dorna Sports, and FIM to discuss about race preparation process which is preceded by homologation.

The homologation has been carried out since Wednesday (16/3/2022) evening. “Let us pray together so that everything goes as expected. We expect to receive the result on Thursday afternoon," he said.

Abdulbar explained that ITDC has been coordinating with Mandalika MotoGP Field Commander the Indonesian Military (TNI) Air Chief Marshal (ret.) Hadi Tjahjanto to report the progress related to the committee and events.

He also informed that President Joko Widodo has had an audience with 20 riders and sent them off to a parade on Wednesday (16/3/2022). “We received information that this was the first time that a president opened and signaled the start of a parade consisting of MotoGP riders,” he said.

The riders were also witnesses to the enormous enthusiasm of people along the MH Thamrin Street. “They are very honored and ready to perform on Saturday and Sunday. We’d also like to mention that the last-day tickets are sold out. Sale for second-day tickets continues and we will sell another 10,000 tickets for the first day with the cooperation of NTB Governor,” said Abdulbar. However, there will be no addition of tickets and tribunes following President’s instruction not to sell more than 63,000 tickets.

Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is a nation branding or country branding which provides a multiplier effect to the tourism. “We have received data from Pak  Sandiaga Uno that MotoGP has an estimated impact of Rp500 billion from ticket sales, accommodation, flight tickets, and their derivatives,” he said.

He hoped to achieve the target and meet expectations because during World Superbike, hotel occupancy rates increased by 100 percent. “We ask for your support to finish the event successfully and boost Indonesia’s image. It also includes providing multiplier effect to people’s welfare,” said Abdulbar.

Meanwhile, President Director of Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) Priandhi Satria said that MotoGP is an important event to introduce and promote Indonesia to the international community since it is watched by more than 400 million sets of eyes in 200 countries.

“We ask for the cooperation of journalists to report on MotoGP fairly. We will also provide the opportunity for journalists to watch the race. There are 10 tickets on Saturday, March 19, and 10 other tickets on Sunday, March 20,” he said.

Priandhi also reminded journalists to not shoot the track because there would be consequences from Dorna Sports.
