Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesian President Joko Widodo officially inaugurated Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Sunday (14/1) night. The occasion was later continued by a football match between Indonesia and Iceland national team which commenced at 7 pm.

President Jokowi inaugurated SUGBK at 6.30 pm. After a year of renovation, the stadium is now ready to use. A variety of luxurious and sophisticated facilities was built to support the stadium which was first built for the 1962 Asian Games. The Ministry of Public Works and Housing as the responsible ministry and PT Adhi Karya as a contractor did not alter the appearance of SUGBK facade as a heritage building. However, SUGBK is now supported by more modern facilities. The improvements covered among other: field lighting with improved lamp intensity from 1,500 lux to 2,500-3,000 lux, solar panels with 420 KWP capacities, and 8,800 thousand watt PMPO sound system.

SUGBK is also claimed to be a green stadium that uses a shorter drainage system, with the distance of each channel reduced from 7 meters to 4 meters. It is also equipped with automatic ground sprayers that pump rainwater. As of its security system, SUGBK installed the best CCTV camera with 7k specification and features face recognition. In the VVIP section, the stadium is equipped with bulletproof glass in the Royal Box area which can withstand AW 10 A caliber 7.62 mm. The tribune section is now modified into a flip up single seat type with a total seat amounting to 75 thousand from the previous 80 to 90 thousand seats. The stadium is also designed to be more friendly to guest with special needs by the addition of access facility near tribune’s inner ring which enables wheelchair users to enter. It is also installed with 200 seats for their companions/assistances at the lower part of the tribune. (Siti Chodijah)
