Indonesia Asks All Parties to Stop Violence at Rakhine State

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia condemned armed group attack on police stations and refugee shelters in Maungtaw Rakhine State on August 25, 2017 which forced hundreds of people to flee and caused a new round of violence.

Indonesia also regretted the casualties, dead or injured. This was stated by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi to respond to the incident that occurred in Myanmar.

Foreign Minister Retno also said that Indonesia expects the Government of Myanmar to take immediate steps to restore security and provide inclusive human protection.

"Indonesia also encourages all parties to immediately stop the violence, contribute to the restoration of security, and respect the human rights of people in Rakhine State, including the Muslim community," said Foreign Minister Retno.

The situation in Rahkine State, according to the Foreign Minister, is very complex. She said that the cooperation of all stakeholders is necessary in order to achieve a peaceful, secure, and stable condition as well as inclusive development at Rakhine State.

A peaceful, secure and stable situation in Myanmar, the Foreign Minister added, including in Rakhine State, is important to support the maintenance of stability in ASEAN and sustainable development in the region.

"Indonesia will continue cooperation with Myanmar in the process of reconciliation, democratization and inclusive development, including the implementation of Kofi Annan's report recommendation," Foreign Minister concluded, as quoted from kemlu.go.id. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
