Jakarta, InfoPublik – The House of Representatives’ Legislation Body (Baleg DPR) received ‘We Are Indonesian Music’ (KMI) association to discuss national music industry management.

Baleg deputy chairman Firman Soebagyo explained that Article 28 of 1945 Constitution (UUD 1945) stipulates that every person may develop himself. In music context, the article could also be meant to realize a national music industry management sovereignty.

“I think Article 28C is very clear,” said Firman at DPR building in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/7).

“In this matter, the government has not been able to protect domestic musicians. Therefore, the House should conduct a hearing with the musicians and deliver the result to related government institutions.

“The country has not protected the rights of these musicians. Government must synergize with them to formulate the law so that the industry will develop.”

Furthermore, he recommended the bill should be initiated by political parties who then form a team to provide inputs about the bill. “We hope all artists who are also members of the House and KMI could sit together in formulating the bill on music,”  he concluded. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
