Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesian photo journalist Kemal Jufri said the work of journalism such as photograph should give positive influence to the society.

"Photographers must be responsible for their work, while the public also needs to get educated about journalism," Kemal told a discussion held under the theme Capturing Injustice Through Lens, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Thursday (5/4).

Kemal urged the public verify journalists’ photos. "I personally chose an independent media to find out the validity of the journalist’s work including photo," he said.

Meanwhile, Nana Kofi Acquah, a ghanaian photo journalist Ghana revealed, the development of technology in photography has affected the people of Africa.

"Some senior African citizens are still ashamed of being Africa due to the many negative images and inferiority," said Acquah.

He is optimistic quality photos in Africa can convince the youths in the continent to be confident.

"Indonesia and Ghana shared a long history of colonialism, and this is a challenge that must be overcome, including by making a good photography," said Acquah.

The discussion is part of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2017 series of event held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on 1-4 May 2017. Attending the discussion were local and international journalists. (Reporter: Reporter Eko Budiono, Translator: Siti Chodijah)
