Jakarta, Infopublik - The Union of Print Media Companies (SPS) executive director Asmono Wikan was optimistic that the celebration of World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2017 would enlighten the public.
“People need to be enlightened by quality journalism. The WPFD event is important to give the right attention to news content,” Asmono said at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in a WPFD 2017 workshop, Tuesday (5/2).
Asmono indicated that Indonesian public has been informed at choosing reliable news and media.
“WPFD 2017 is expected to be able to contribute in public education, for them to make news as reference,” he stated.
In general, according to Asmono, the mainstream media has currently been on the right track.
“Press as the 4th pillar of the democracy plays an important role. WPFD 2017 could serve as a platform for journalists from all over the world to exchange ideas and experiences,” he explained.
He suggested that fora similar to WPFD shall be regularly held in the country.
