Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia Cultural Products Week (PPBI) to be slated on Oct. 25—29, 2017 at Plaza Epicentrum Jakarta is aimed to attract 45,000 visitors.

It was stated by Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs’ interim deputy for cultural coordination I Nyoman Shuida on the sidelines of PPBI 2017 pre-event in Jakarta, Friday (4/7).

“We have invited participants from central government’s ministries and agencies, local governments, businesses, communities, and media,” said Shuida who is also the chair of PPBI 2017 organizing committee.

He stated that the event has been taking place since 2007. This year’s theme is “Civilized and Independent” and the sub-theme is “Proud of Indonesian Culture.” It reflects that being civilized will support the nation’s independence and character.

The mascot of PPBI is Bacula—portmanteau of badak bercula satu or one-horned rhinoceros in English. It shows that the Indonesian government really concerns on the preservation and management of cultural heritage and the nature. One of the natural preservation sites is Ujung Kulon National Park as the sanctuary of lesser one-horned rhinoceros or also known as Javan rhinoceros.

“To be a civilized and independent nation, we have to love, consume, and appreciate cultural products through the ‘Proud of Indonesian Culture’ approach,” he said.

The main programs in the event are among others exhibition, art and culture performance, and cultural forum. Besides that, there will be carnival and social activity.

Indonesian cultural products are very diverse, such as batik, fabric, weaving, herbal drink, culinary, dance, painting, sculpture, carving, etc. that have developed in the society.

“Today’s development demands cultural products to have both cultural and economic value for surviving in this era,” he concluded.  (Translator: Erik Limantara)
