Indonesia, US to discuss open sky cooperation

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Indonesia’s Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and the U.S.’s Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Patricia Haslach discussed the continuation of open sky cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Budi said open sky is a long-standing cooperation between Indonesia and the U.S. "In order to boost this cooperation, I am hoping the support from the U.S. government to increase our capacity, as well as the safety of air navigation," he said in Jakarta, Thursday (2/23).

The meeting also discussed Garuda Indonesia’s flight plan to the U.S. in cooperation with the country’s airline. Currently, the MoU has already been signed and are now being implemented by both countries.

"This MoU has generated several cooperations in capacity building of air navigation sector. In the future, both countries expected more fruitful cooperation in technical and operational safety of air navigation sector," said Minister Budi.

Related to the flight plan to the US, Minister Budi stated that the Garuda Indonesia Airline and a U.S.’s airline had conducted several talks to discuss code share cooperation between the two airlines.

"I strongly support the idea that code share cooperation between the two airlines to be immediately executed so that Indonesian airlines can immediately fly to the United States," said Minister Budi. (Translator: Siti Chodijah)
