Indonesia to Host AIPA Meeting

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Indonesia through House's Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP),  will host a meeting of ASEAN Inter- Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), whose membership consists of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam.

According to the BKSAP Chairman Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, the meeting will be held on July 2017. "When we become a host, it must bring benefit not only for the House of Representatives (DPR) but also for all Indonesian people," Nurhayati said at  her office,  in Jakarta, Wednesday (22/2).

AIPA, also known as ASEAN Regional Parliament, aim to help ASEAN member countries to  achieve prosperity.

"it is how to increase the capacity of ASEAN to achieve prosperity, not only for Indonesia but also for all ASEAN countries. This is what we expect," said Nurhayati.

She also stated that Indonesia will encourage AIPA to bring ASEAN to the same level as European Union. 
During her discussion with AIPA Secretary General Isra Sunthornvut, Nurhayati stated that  the theme of this year’s meeting was maritime security. "Maritime security in the region, it is the theme that will be discussed," she said. (Translator: Sugiarti)
