Jakarta, InfoPublik – Early detection of cervical cancer is now included in financing scheme by JKN-KIS, so that people would not be charged for a screening test.

Health BPJS President Director Fachmi Idris said that cervical cancer does not cause any symptoms and is difficult to detect at the early stage. Therefore, health screening through cervical cancer early detection is required.

Women are generally reluctant to check. As the result, cancer is detected only when it is already at advanced stage," he said while accompanying First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo in Karanganyar, in a press statement received by InfoPublik in Jakarta, Tuesday (2/21).

Fachmi explained that once the patient is known to have advanced stage of cervical cancer, the treatment process become more difficult and the cost is expensive. Cervical cancer, however, is the most easily prevented and detected with early detection and vaccination, when compared with other types of cancers, cervical cancer.

According to Fachmi, if the screening test results show the KIS-JKN participants are cervical cancer positive, they can receive further treatment at health facilities in partnership with Health BPJS with applicable procedures and conditions.

Based on data from the national Health BPJS participants in 2016, the number of cervical cancer cases in outpatient level of service reached 12,820 cases with a total cost of about 56.5 billion rupiah. While in the inpatient level reached 6,938 cases with a total cost of about 87.1 billion rupiah. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
