Jakarta, InfoPublik - Bank Indonesia Supervisory Board (BSBI) had to be able to encourage Bank Indonesia (BI) to prioritize transparency and accountability in formulating economic policies.

It was stated by a candidate of BSBI member M. Fadhil Hasan. "It has to be transparent and accountable, otherwise Indonesia's economic instability will occur," he said at the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta, Monday (2/20).

BSBI role as the representative of the legislature is significant for both institutions in cooperating to boost the nation's economy. Therefore, any recommendations given must be based on the studies of experts at the central and local levels. "We must conduct FGD [focus group discussion] with competent experts on economy and BSBI’s informal function as a constitutional bridge," said Fadhil.

In response, a member of DPR’s Commission XI Indah Kurnia said BSBI should be able to help the House of Representatives to the maximum extent on this sector.

"Currently, the role is not maximal in helping legislative to supervise BI. Commission XI members’ have many duties; we are a political institution," she said.

BSBI is expected to directly help legislators by submitting recommendations. Thus, BSBI will actively participate in overseeing Commission XI’s economic policies. "BSBI should have an initiative to oversee the House’s aspirations," said Indah. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
