Government to Build Temporary Housing in Pidie Jaya

Meureude, InfoPublik – The government is currently building temporary housing (shelters) for Pidie Jaya residents whose houses were damaged by the earthquake on December 7, 2016.

According to Pidie Jaya Vice Regent Said Mulyadi, the local government together with National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), and Indonesia National Army (TNI) will build  2,000 shelters which arescheduled to be ready in February 2017.

"Currently we have coordinated with the central government to build the temporary housing, people who lost their homes or residences could stay in the shelters," He said in Meureude, Monday (1/23).

He also explained that they will also rebuild 2,200 houses from the 4,524 houses that were damaged by the earthquake. 

"Based on BNPB data, the residents of the 2,200 damaged houses are living at emergency tents or at relatives houses at the moment," he said.

He explained the recorded data showed the number of houses with destroyed and damaged categories. “The destroyed category means the houses must be rebuilt, while the damaged category means the houses need about 30 or 40 percent renovation,” he said. 

The public appreciated the government's efforts to rehabilitate the environtment after the earthquale. They also hoped that their houses can be rebuilt and so would other unregistered damaged houses due to the aftershocks.

"Due to the aftershocks, some houses that only had slight damage become heavily damage, and we must also rebuild those few houses,” he said.

He added that based on Pidie Jaya Regency data, the number of fatality has reached 96 people. (Translator: Rina Alexandra)
