12 migrant-sending countries generate Colombo Declaration

Jakarta, InfoPublik - The ministerial meeting of migrant-sending countries grouped in Colombo Process had agreed on Colombo Declaration which aimed to improve the welfare and protection of migrant workers.

"The declaration focuses on five areas, namely skills recognition, ethical recruitment, pre-departure orientation, remittance, and labor market analysis," said Indonesia’s Manpower Minister Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri in Jakarta, Sunday (8/28). "The essence of the Colombo Declaration is improving the welfare and protection of migrant workers."

The manpower ministerial meeting also agreed on the acceptance of Cambodia as the 12th member of the group. The acceptance, he continued, is expected to develop the strength of migrant-sending countries in the fight for the migrant workers’ protection and welfare.

In addition to the agreement above, the Manpower Ministers highlighted the protection improvement by establishing networking on the labor market information, health recognition, and labor inspector.

The ministers also agreed that the Sri Lanka’s chairmanship is extended to wait the next group’s chairmanship readiness, said Minister Dhakiri. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
