Jakarta, InfoPublik - Jakarta Provincial Government will provide educational assistance for its citizens who continue to pursue higher education.  They will receive 1.5 million rupiah per month for education fee and living expenses.

Jakarta Education Office Head Sopan Adrianto said this program is initiated by Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama in 2016. Jakarta citizens who graduate this year will receive this educational funding.

"They will be given allowance of 1.5 million rupiah per month, consists of 600 thousand rupiah for education fee and 900 thousand rupiah for living cost. This assistance will be carried out this June, right after the graduation," said Sopan Adrianto at Jakarta City Hall, Monday (4/11).

According to him, the education fund will be transferred directly to universities and the living cost to the students. “So they can withdraw it using ATM,” he said.

He added that this education fund can be used for all universities in Indonesia, not only in Jakarta. To that end, Jakarta education office has coordinated with the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and other universities.

In order to receive the fund, Jakarta residents have to secure their Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP). "The requirements are similar with the existing KJP, which previously only for primary to secondary education students, now extended to college students," he said. (Translator: Wilda Stiana)
