Govt Seeks To Preserve Regional Languages

Banjarmasin, InfoPublik - Head of South Kalimantan Language Center, Rudy Syahmenan, revealed that his office has two strategic duties, namely language development and education in the community.

In South Kalimantan, there are 18 regional and eight native languages in which two of them have rarely been used or considered endangered, namely Berangas and Abal Language.
 
“In recent years, language development and education have been done in various activities, for instance, musical poetry, literary workshop, writing competitions, and much more," said Mr. Syahmenan in Banjarmasin, Tuesday (2/2).
 
For the annual event, his office also holds Language Ambassador Selection as an effort to preserve and expand the language knowledge among youths both in regional and national level, said the man who earned his master degree in the University of Indonesia.
