House of Representatives, Government Agree to Revise MD3 Law

Jakarta, InfoPublik - The House's Legislation Body (Baleg) chairman Supratman Andi Agtas said that the House of Representatives and the Government agreed to revise Law on the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), also known as MD3 Law. The revision would be on the provision for the number of leaders in the MPR.

"Ten factions in the DPR have agreed to make changes to the MD3 Law relating the number of leaders in the MPR," Supratman said at Nusantara I Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (13/9).

To date, the MPR is led by one speaker and seven deputy speakers. In a joint working meeting, the House of Representatives, Home Affairs Minister, and Law and Human Rights Minister have agreed that the MPR will be led by one speaker and 9 deputy speakers.

"The leaders are representatives of each faction who passed the threshold of general election and one from the DPD. That is the first level decision made at the Legislation Body," he said.

He also explained that the MPR is an institution that would deal with Ideology and the constitution. The politics of nationalism and togetherness in the context of holding a deliberation is characterized in the leadership aspect of the MPR. For this reason, all elements of the DPR and DPD can be represented in the MPR.

"The results of this meeting will soon be submitted to the House’s leaders before being discussed at a consultative body meeting. After that, It is expected to be discussed at a plenary meeting in the near future," Supratman concluded.
