Jakarta, InfoPublik – Jakarta chapter of Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI Jaya) chairman Sayid Iskandarsyah asserted that a media company is required to be a legal entity in the form of a Limited Liability Company (PT).

"Since 2014, all press companies must be listed as legal entities in the form of limited liability companies," Sayid said. He further explained that the provision is regulated in the circular of the Press Council Number 01/SE-DP/I/2014 on the implementation of the Press Law and press company standards, dated 16 January 2014.

Sayid conveyed the message while delivering his remarks on the opening of Journalist Orientation Batch 2 2019 held by PWI Jaya at Prada Sasana Karya Jakarta building, Monday (5/8).

Around 30 journalists from various media in Jakarta area participated in the orientation. Attending the orientation was one of the conditions for journalists to become PWI members. Each participant will be awarded certificate of competence and be declared competent by the PWI.

Materials provided in the orientation comprise the statutes and bylaws of the PWI, journalistic code of ethics, cyber media coverage guidelines, and child-friendly news coverage guidelines in journalistic works.

In addition, participants were also provided with material of proper techniques and methods in reporting news which should comply with the 5W + 1H elements (What, Where, When, Who, Why, and How).

"Hopefully all participants could successfully pass the orientation," Sayid concluded. (Reporter: Isma, Translator: Erik Limantara)
