Jakarta, InfoPublik - National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) chairman Arist Merdeka Sirait urged the people not to vote for legislative candidates who are involved in sexual crimes against children.

He also expected people who acknowledge any candidates as perpetrators of sexual violence against children to immediately report to the KPU in their respective regions.

"Many legislators in several regions have been found guilty of committing criminal acts of sexual violence against children," Arist said in a written statement received by InfoPublik on Sunday (7/29).

He stated that for the period of January-June 2018, Komnas PA has recorded 8 members of Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) who committed improper acts, harassment and sexual crimes.

Therefore, Arist added, to break the chain of violence against children and to maintain the purity of the people's institutions, Komnas PA together with its partnering institutions in the area of child protection, politically and juridically agreed to enact the KPU Regulation Year 2018.

Nevertheless, he also expected that the public can provide accurate and non-slanderous information of legislative candidates who are alleged as sexual crimes convicts.

"Stopping sexual crimes against children is non-negotiable. There is no peace with this crime and the implementation of KPU Regulation must be strictly supervised," he concluded. (Reporter: Jhon Rico) (Translator: Erik Limantara)
