Jakarta, InfoPublik - President Joko Widodo had signed the Presidential Decree Number 25 of 2017 on the Garuda Contingent of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Composite Battalion Task Force at the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Central African Republic on Aug. 21.
The decision was taken after considering the request of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN); the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia at the Leader's Summit on Peacekeeping on Sep. 28, 2015 in New York; and the approval of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) at working meeting on Feb. 25, 2016.
Based on the Decree, the President instructed the Foreign Affairs Minister to coordinate with the United Nations in terms of the Contingent’s preparation, implementation, and termination of duty.
In addition, the President instructed the Defense Minister to provide administrative and funding support and ordered the Commander of TNI to carry out the preparation, deployment, and extraction of the troops.
"The funding comes from the Defense Ministry’s state budget and on the UN’s budget," the fifth dictum of the Decree stipulates.
The Contingent, according to the Decree, performs its duties for one year and it can be renewed at the request of the UN and the Indonesian Government.
"The Decree shall come into force as from the date of stipulation," the seventh dictum of the Decree stipulates. (Translator: Erik Limantara)
