BPS Recorded 0.10 Percent Deflation in July 2020

Jakarta, InfoPublik - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded 0.10 percent deflation in July 2020. The CPI (consumer price index) monitored by BPS in 90 cities indicated that 61 cities experienced deflation with the highest occurred in Manokwari at 1.09 percent while 29 cities experienced inflation.

BPS head Suhariyanto said deflation occurred due to a price decline which was indicated by a decrease in several indexes of expenditure including food, beverage and tobacco at 0.73 percent, transportation at 0.17 percent, and housing, water, electricity and household fuel at 0.01 percent.

While expenditure groups that experienced an increase in index were the clothing and footwear at 0.09 percent, household maintenance commodities at 0.10 percent, health commodities at 0.29 percent, the information, communication and financial services at 0.02 percent.

"The calendar year inflation rate (January-July) 2020 is recorded at 0.98 percent and on a yearly basis (July 2020 to July 2019), the inflation rate is at 1.54 percent," Suhariyanto said. (Photo: BPS)
