BPS: May 2019 Inflation Recorded 0.68 Percent

Jakarta, InfoPublik – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 0.68 percent inflation in May 2019. Meanwhile, 81 out of 82 cities experienced inflation in which Tual reached the highest with 2.91 percent.

“The expenditure groups’ price increases have caused the inflation. They are foodstuff group with 2.02 percent; processed food, beverage, cigarette, and tobacco group at 0.56 percent; and transportation, communication, and financial service group with 0.54 percent,” said BPS head Suhariyanto in a press conference on Monday (6/10).

“Other groups that also contribute to inflation are housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel group with 0.06 percent; clothing group with 0.45 percent; health group with 0.18 percent; and education, recreation, and sport group with 0.03 percent.

“Meanwhile, deflation was only occurred in Merauke. The inflation is under control because of fasting month of Ramadan and Eid moments.”

Furthermore, year-to-date (ytd) inflation rate—January to May 2019—reached 1.48 percent and year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate—May 2019 to May 2018—was recorded at 3.32 percent.

Core component in May 2019 experienced inflation at 0.27 percent. The ytd core component inflation rate reached 1.17 percent while yoy was at 3.12 percent. (Translator: Filmon Warouw)
