Nusa Dua, Bali - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo reminded economic leaders from 189 countries at the plenary of the 2018 Annual Meetings of International Monetary Fund (IMF)–the World Bank Group in Bali that cooperation and global collaboration need to be promoted in facing current external volatility.

President Jokowi stressed that the world does not have to be like in the TV series Game of Thrones that only promotes competition and rivalry.

“It is pointless to celebrate victory amidst destruction. It is pointless to become the largest economies among sinking global economy,” President Jokowi said on Friday (12/10/2018) in Nusa Dua, Bali.

President Jokowi also stressed the need to maintain the need to maintain global cooperation commitment. Scenario in the TV series Game of Thrones ends with a moral lesson that confrontation will create problems for all, both the winner and the loser. Relations among advanced countries these days can be seen just like in the Game of Thrones, the President said.

Just like the stories in the TV series, competition between major powers to bring down each other makes them not aware of global threats they are facing.

President Jokowi added that economic cooperation so far has paved the way for a host of opportunities for the world and global threats can be only tackled only with cooperation.

“Is it the right time to promote rivalry and competition or is it the right time for cooperation and collaboration?” he said.

President Joko Widodo reminded that the time has come to collaborate globally. "All global policy makers must contribute to find the right fiscal and monetary policies to face global uncertainties,” he said. (kemenkeu/Vira/Translator: Ersan)
